What is our Housing Capital Programme?

Our Capital Programme is an ongoing programme of improvements works to ensure your home continues to meet the Decent Homes Standard. Examples of the improvements we carryout include fitting new kitchens and bathrooms, replacing window and doors, installing new heating systems and reroofing work.

The council’s capital programme is developed by Bury Housing Services staff and approved by the Cabinet. This work is often decided based on priorities from:

  • stock condition survey carried out to identify condition and lifespan of elements on each property culminating in a 30-year plan and spend profile.
  • Information from other departments within the council in providing their needs to specific properties.
  • repairs data on each property from the housings system.
  • local knowledge from the staff within the areas.
  • Councillors’ information from their respective communities.
  • Customer information fed into the council by various means.

The delivery of the schemes is split into groups, such as kitchens and bathrooms, external works, energy efficiency, adaptations, communal flats, and fire compliance. With some of these schemes, we are able to offer you options on what you would like, including a choice of kitchen colours, flooring colours and paint colours and door type and colours.

Schemes are managed by housing staff from inception to completion with satisfaction surveys carried out on completion of each scheme which in turn informs us of what went well and where necessary how we can improve.

The Capital programme will be on Bury Council’s website once it is approved by Cabinet.
