1. What is a Tenants and Residents Association (TRA)?
4. How to start a tenants group
A Tenants and Residents Association (TRA) is group of local volunteers who work together to make positive changes in their area, create community spirit and improve resident's quality of life.
Are you passionate about where you live? Then why not set up or join your local TRA to:
● Share ideas and work in partnership with Bury Housing and other agencies to make improvements to local services.
● Attend and help organise social events and activities (such as youth activities, gardening schemes, clean up days, etc), which can be a great way to get to know your neighbours and improve community spirit.
● Bid for funding to make improvements to your community.
● Gain fantastic work experience, learn new skills and gain a sense of satisfaction through volunteering
If you would like to set up or get involved with your local TRA, please contact our Tenant Engagement Team by calling 0161 686 8000 or email: tenantengagement@bury.gov.uk
If you are a group and not on this list, or you want to provide an address or website, please let us know and we will update our listing.

Constitutions
All TRAs that have a committee and bank account are required to have a constitution. A constitution is a basic set of rules that TRAs must have to be recognised and to apply for funding. It covers the aims of a group and gives guidance on how a group will operate. Help will be given to new groups to develop a constitution. Click here to view our model constitution.
Funding
Six Town Housing provides funding to help constituted groups with day-to-day running costs, for example photocopying, stationery, postage, venue hire, travel expenses and refreshments.
